Tools Campaign

Description
Our internal sales team and relationship managers required a more sophisticated way to discuss Vanguard's investment strategies. My UX team was tasked with building a web application enabling users to build a custom investment portfolio. Once a user creates a custom portfolio, they can perform historical and future analysis in multiple ways. The tool primarily focuses on showing complex financial data in charts and manipulating different parameters to show potential gains or losses in a client's financial portfolio. This analysis helps Vanguard's investment experts to explain its investment policy and showcase why potential clients should use Vanguard's services.
Role
I worked with business subject matter experts to understand the sales team's needs. We conducted user interviews and strategy sessions to learn how to design the new tool in the best way. This project required intimate knowledge of complex financial data and how that data needed to be manipulated by users. Once the tool was created, we conducted user testing with the clients and had them practice using the tool as they would in meeting with a client. Observing them use the tool allowed us to update it based on their needs and ensure we built the right features at the right time. I led the overall design direction with two junior UX designers. Together, we built and managed a design system to ensure that the three different tools aligned visually and had a form of information hierarchy. I also worked with the development team and business partners to ensure the tool was built accurately and on time.
Outcome
The tools have been an enormous success. It allowed the sales team to create custom models of clients' portfolios and show how changes to client's investments could help or hurt their long-term success. The tools are now continuously updated, ensuring that each tool has the most up-to-date financial data. The UX team continues to change and add features as needed.
